Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about GATE EE preparation
GATE Electrical Engineering (EE) is considered moderate to difficult. The conceptual depth of subjects like Machines, Power Systems, Signals, and Control Systems is high. Questions are mostly concept-based, not formula-based. Even simple topics are tested through tricky logic and multi-step calculations. 30–40% of the paper contains NAT (numerical) questions, which are more challenging because they have no options. If your concepts are strong and you solve enough PYQs + mock tests, you can handle the difficulty easily.
A serious student generally needs 6-8 months if studying 3-4 hours daily, 10-12 months if starting from basic level or weak in core subjects, or 4-5 months if revision + test-series focused and concepts are already clear. With consistent study, regular mock tests, and proper guidance, any student can crack GATE within one year.
Coaching is not mandatory, but it is extremely useful if you want structured guidance, clarity on tough subjects, high-quality questions, regular tests and doubt-solving, or if you lack discipline or a proper study plan. Coaching accelerates your preparation by giving exam-focused notes, providing PYQ-mapped practice, tracking your improvement, and saving time in understanding complex topics. Many toppers say coaching helped them stay consistent and confident.
