No. Sponsorship by a FINRA member firm is mandatory.

Is SIE required before Series 7? +

Yes, SIE is a corequisite.

Does Series 7 allow me to trade municipal securities? +

Registrations before Nov 7, 2011 – Full muni trading & structuring permitted. Registrations on or after Nov 7, 2011 – Limited to sales & purchases for customers. To expand muni activities, you must pass Series 52.

How long should I prepare for the exam? +

Average preparation time: 2–3 months with consistent study.

What happens after passing Series 7? +

You become eligible to function as a General Securities Representative and may pursue advanced FINRA exams.
